QB Miller heads OSU's recruits

COLUMBUS — Ohio State is in a familiar position heading into football national signing day Wednesday.

The Buckeyes expect to sign a strong recruiting class, but adding one or two more players to the 21 already verbally committed, could turn that group into one of the top collections of new talent in the country.

Most of the recruiting evaluators rank Ohio State’s recruits somewhere between the top five to just outside the top 10 nationally.

Huber Heights Wayne quarterback Braxton Miller, one of five recruits already enrolled at Ohio State, leads the class.

Some of the other top players in the class, according to the recruiting services, are: linebacker Ryan Shazier (Plantation, Fla.), defensive lineman Michael Bennett (Centerville), offensive lineman Brian Bobek (Palatine, Ill.), defensive end Chase Farris (Elyria), defensive back Doran Grant (Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary), defensive lineman Steve Miller (Canton McKinley) and tight end Nick Vannett (Westerville Central).

The addition of linebacker Curtis Grant (Richmond, Va.) and offensive lineman Aundrey Walker (Cleveland Glenville) could turn this into an outstanding recruiting season for OSU.

Walker and Grant aren’t expected to announce their decisions until Wednesday.

Walker (6-5, 360 pounds) is considering Florida State, Wisconsin, USC and Michigan State along with Ohio State.

Grant’s top teams are Florida, Virginia, North Carolina and Ohio State.

There are five defensive linemen, four offensive linemen, three linebackers, two wide receivers, two tight ends, two cornerbacks, two safeties and one quarterback in the class. Thirteen of OSU’s recruits are from Ohio.

Ohio State and Nebraska are the only Big Ten teams ranked in the top 25 by most national recruiting evaluators.
