Friday's roundup: Ottawa-Glandorf comes back and nips Kenton

 

OTTAWA - Ottawa-Glandorf rallied in the fourth quarter and scored 15 points to slip past Kenton, 29-28, in this hard-fought battle in the Western Buckeye League in football on Friday night.

Kenton was up 28-14 at the half, but the Titans shut out the Wildcats in the second half.

Jacob Lugo started the comeback with a 14-yard touchdown rush. Taylor Kuhlman hit Jacob Moening with a 22-yard TD pass to move even closer. Kuhlman capped the comeback with a 1-yard rush, and a two-point conversion pass to Moening for the final difference.

Ottawa-Glandorf rushed the ball for 231 yards as Kenton was only able to muster 43 yards on the ground. Kenton, however, passed for 305 yards behind the arm of Maty Mauk, who also threw for four touchdown and two picks.

Kuhlman went 5 of 9 for 95 yards and a touchdown, and also rushed 19 times for 82 yards and a touchdown. Lugo rushed 29 times for 129 yards.

St. Marys 25, Celina 20

ST. MARYS - St. Mary's scored 12 points in the final quarter to come from behind and seal the game against rival Celina in this WBL battle.

The Roughriders rushed for 246 yards while Celina was only able to gain 74 yards on the ground.

Jeremy Frey led St. Marys' rushing attack as he carried the ball 23 times for 122 yards and a touchdown. Frey had three receptions for 64 yards as well.

Delphos St. John's 35, Minster 20

MINSTER - Minster's Ty Whitmer carried the ball 26 times and chewed up 183 yards and scored two touchdowns.

The Blue Jays' Wes Ulm accounted for four of the team's five touchdowns, three of which came on scrambles of one, 13 and 35 yards, and one coming on a 28-yard pass to Brad Huffman.

Minster struggled to pass the ball, completing 4 of 15 and gaining only 98 yards through the air. The bulk of those yards came on an 82-yard touchdown reception by Brian Mueller.

Ada 34, Columbus Grove 19

COLUMBUS GROVE - Ada clearly favored the passing game as they gained 357 yards through the air and only 65 on the ground. Meanwhile, Columbus Grove rushed for 331 yards and passed for only 56.

Ada's Mitchell Faine stole the show, completing 28 of 35 passes for two touchdowns, and rushing for another two scores. Faine hooked up with Kyle Baker on over half the passes he completed, as Baker had 16 receptions for 199 yards and a touchdown. Teammate Alex Weber had five receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown.

Columbus Grove's Devin Verhoff had 22 rushes for 204 yards to lead the team.

Paulding 21, LCC 14

PAULDING - Haden Sholl of Paulding completed 13 of 23 passes for 190 yards with one rushing touchdown and one passing touchdown. Andrew Mott was Sholl's favorite target, hauling in eight catches for 144 yards.

LCC managed to gain only 183 total yards, rushing for 93 and passing for 90. LCC's offense fumbled the ball six times, losing it on three occasions.

Arlington 35, Cory-Rawson 17

RAWSON - Cory-Rawson's John Erford had six receptions for 136 yards and one touchdown. Teammate John Anderson hauled in four catches for 84 yards and a touchdown. The Hornets' Luke Bowser completed 11 of 29 passes for 197 yards, two touchdowns, and four picks.

Arlington rushed the ball for 263 yards as Cory-Rawson only managed to gain 97 yards on the ground.

Hardin Northern 34, Arcadia 18

DOLA - Hardin Northern completed every single one of its attempted passes - a grand total of three. The Polar Bears' Reid Parsons threw for 94 yards, throwing  a touchdown pass on every attempt he made on the night. Hardin Northern rushed the ball 48 times for 268 yards.

Chad Motter led the Polar Bears with 33 carries, 220 yards and two touchdowns.

Leipsic 27, Van Buren 7

LEIPSIC -  With 221 rushing yards and another 124 through the air, Leipsic dominated this Blanchard Valley Conference matchup. Jake Schroeder had 121 yards on 17 rushes.

The Vikings' defense held Van Buren to 90 rushing yards, and forced six turnovers.

Defiance 35, Wapakoneta 9

WAPAKONETA - Defiance scored 21 points in the first half and added 14 more in the third quarter to easily win a WBL game.

Sidney Lehman 28, Indian Lake 7

SIDNEY - Max Cartwright had 110 rushing yards and three touchdowns to lead Sidney Lehman to the win. Cartwright scored the first two TDs for Lehman, on runs of 15 and 29 yards. He added an 8-yard run in the fourth quarter.

St. Henry 26, New Bremen 13

NEW BREMEN - St. Henry rushed for 297 yards on 40 carries as the Redskins took care of New Bremen in the MAC. The Cardinals only rushed for 70 yards, but put up 212 in the air.

Brent Prenger had 25 totes for 180 yards, and scored on runs of four and 26 yards. Neil Schwieterman had 106 yards on 12 carries; he opened the scoring with a 46-yard run.

New Bremen quarterback Caleb Williams completed 18 of 36 passes with a pick and a fourth-quarter TD.

Coldwater 49, Versailles 0

VERSAILLES - Coldwater scored 42 points in the second and third quarters and easily outdistanced the host Tigers in the MAC.

Keith Wenning had three touchdown passes and another rushing during the outburst. He had 165 yards passing on just eight completions. Tony Harlamert scored on two of the passes, along with a 20-yard interception return. Harlamert had 140 total yards.

Perry 32, Upper Scioto Valley 26

PERRY TOWNSHIP - Korey Lane rushed for 193 yards and four touchdowns, including three straight in the first half. He added the deciding points in the third quarter.

USV quarterback Justin Rose completed 14 of 35 passes for 197 yards and two TDs. Running back Troy Summa had 55 rushing yards and a TD, 70 receiving yards and another TD and returned a kickoff 77 yards for a score.

The Commodores won despite commiting four turnovers - three fumbles and an interception.

Wayne Trace 22, Crestview 16

CONVOY - Wayne Trace made a goal line stand with less than one minute to play and held off Crestview for the Raiders' first win of the season.

The Raiders held a 16-3 lead at halftime, only to have Crestview come back and tie the contest at 16-16 on Stephen Semer's second scoring run of the second half.

Allen East 21, Spencerville 7

LAFAYETTE - Levi Hoy had 86 yards on 29 carries, and scored on a four-yard run in the second quarter as Allen East knocked off Spencerville in the NWC. Joe Hunnaman scored on a rush and E.J. Laing and Rant Dues connected on a TD pass.

The Mustangs forced Spencerville into four turnovers.

Neither team scored in the second half.

Marion Local 42, Parkway 14

MARIA STEIN - Marion Local out-gained Parkway 405 yards to 184, and forced the Panthers into three turnovers.

Flyers running back Ben Smith carried 15 times for 122 yards and four touchdowns; he scored four of Marion Local's five TDs. Quarterback Jarren Griesdorn completed 10 of 15 passes for 151 yards.

Pandora-Gilboa 55, McComb 41

PANDORA - Pandora-Gilboa quarterback Kevin Westenbarger completed 31 of 44 passes for 444 yards and three scores. Corey Fry caught eight balls for 203 yards.

Riverdale 50, Ridgemont 0
