Prep Roundup: Kenton holds off Bellefontaine

KENTON - Garrick Sherman and Mark Fackler each scored 16 points as Kenton nipped Bellefontaine 50-49 in a non-league boys basketball game Tuesday. The Wildcats stayed perfect at 4-0.

Fackler hit a pair of 3-pointers. Maty Mauk hit three 3-pointers for all of his nine points, and Chase Barnes hit two 3s and scored another nine.

Que Carter and Brock Mitchell both put up 14 points for Bellefontaine (3-1).

Girls Basketball

Leipsic 66, Fort Jennings 53: Kayla Nuveman scored 18 points to lead four Leipsic players in double figures during their Putnam County League win. Also reaching double digits were Shari Mangas (15 points), Jessica Schroeder (10) and Chelsea Gerten (10).

Nuveman, Gerten and Mangas each made two 3-pointers.

Leipsic improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Musketeers, who got 19 points from Katie Von Lehmden, dropped to 1-5 and 0-1.

Continental 81, Fairview 38: There wasn't much doubt in the outcome after Continental ran off a 24-4 first quarter lead. The Pirates improved to 5-0.

Jessica Brown rolled out 22 points and Brooke Tegenkamp added 16, with a trio of 3-pointers.

Fairview (1-5) committed 31 turnovers.

Botkins 39, New Knoxville 37: Botkins outscored New Knoxville 12-9 in the fourth quarter to salt away the non-conference victory. Christie Fullenkamp (15 points, seven rebounds) and Jenna Schmerge (10 points) led the Trojans.

Olivia Meyer had 12 points and six rebounds for the Rangers.

Defiance Tinora 49, Defiance 48: Tinora built a 36-29 lead through three quarters and held off a Defiance rally to claim the non-league win.

Jaide Hoellrich scored 12 points, making 5 of 6 free throws, to lead the Bulldogs.

Defiance made 6 of 9 free throws while Tinora was good on 10 of 19 attempts.
