OSU Notebook: Tressel puts off quarterback decision

COLUMBUS - Todd Boeckman or Terrelle Pryor?

Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel still would not name a starting quarterback for Saturday's game against Troy when asked on Thursday.

Tressel said he wanted to see what happened in practice and in the early part of the game before determining how playing time would be divided between Boeckman, the starter for the last 15 games, and Pryor, a freshman.

Ohio State's passing game has struggled recently, with Boeckman throwing four touchdowns and eight interceptions in his last six starts. The senior from St. Henry has been sacked seven times in the last two games.

On Tuesday, Tressel said Pryor would take more snaps than Boeckman in practice this week and that it was possible the two quarterbacks could take nearly an equal number of snaps against Troy.

TOEING THE SIDELINE: Suddenly, Ohio State is in need of a team podiatrist.

Tailback Chris Wells will miss his third straight game because of a foot injury when OSU plays Troy at Ohio Stadium on Saturday.

And Tressell said on Thursday that starting guard Steve Rehring will be out indefinitely because of a foot injury he suffered during a 35-3 loss at Southern California last Saturday.

Rehring, a three-year starter, will "probably miss a handful of games," Tressel said.

Ohio State's other starting guard, Ben Person, knows all about foot injuries. He missed spring practice because of one.

"I was in a cast and a boot for almost six months. It took me a long time to get my feet back to where they needed to be," Person said.

GRUDGE MATCH?: Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis isn't the only player in Saturday's game whose dad is a professional wrestler.

Troy offensive tackle Windham Rotunda is the son of former wrestler Mike Rotunda.

The older Rotunda teamed with "Dr. Death" Steve Williams to beat Joe Laurinaitis' Road Warriors team for the NWA tag team title in 1989, then came back with Ted DiBiasi to beat the Road Warriors for the 1992 WWF tag team title.

HONORING THE CHAMPS: Ohio State will recognize its 1968 and 1973 national champion teams at halftime of Saturday's game.

EX-BUCKEYE QUARTERBACKS: Antonio Henton (Georgia Southern) and Rob Schoenhoft (Delaware) have both claimed the starting quarterback jobs at their new schools.

Henton has passed for 468 yards and four touchdowns and run for 194 yards and five TDs for Georgia Southern (2-1). Schoenhoft has completed 28 of 42 passes for 322 yards and two touchdowns for Delaware (1-1).
