Tuesday's prep roundup: Vikings, Rockets advance to finals

OTTAWA — Leipsic’s girls basketball team outscored Patrick Henry 23-15 in the fourth quarter and went on to win 54-49 in a Division IV sectional semifinal game at Ottawa-Glandorf on Tuesday.

Leipsic will play top-seeded Miller City at 6:15 p.m. Saturday at O-G.

Amber Gerdeman scored 18 points for the Vikings, Haley Gerten scored 13 points, Emily Gerten added 11 points and Molly Ellerbrock had 8 points and 6 boards.

Pandora-Gilboa 52, Ayersville 34

OTTAWA — Megan Maag scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and P-G moved into the sectional finals to face Holgate at 8 p.m. Saturday at O-G.

Megan Verhoff scored 15 points for the Rockets in the victory, which was close until the fourth quarter. P-G entered the final period with a 27-25 lead but outscored Ayersville 25-9 in the fourth for the win.

Ada 65, Ridgemont 26

KENTON — Top-seeded Ada had little trouble moving into the second round, where the squad will face Hardin Northern at 6:15 p.m. Saturday at Kenton for the sectional championship.

Tori Wyss scored 13 points for Ada, Alexis Amburgey and Lindsay Simmons each scored 11 points and Taylor Willeke had 8 points. Whitney Arseneau and Grace Poeppelman had 8 points apiece.

New Knoxville 51

New Bremen 32

COLDWATER — Tiana Heidt scored 13 points and New Knoxville improved to 18-3 with the sectional semifinal win. The Rangers will play top-seeded Marion Local at 7:45 p.m. Saturday at Coldwater in the finals. New Bremen finishes the season 7-14. Paige Lehman scored 12 points for New Knoxville and Meagan Brandt scored 9 points for New Bremen.

Fort Recovery 49, St. Henry 48

COLDWATER — Fort Recovery slipped by St. Henry and into the sectional finals, where the Indians will play second-seeded Minster at 6:15 p.m. Saturday at Coldwater. Fort Recovery is 15-6 while St. Henry finishes the season 8-13. Kelly Nietfeld scored 14 points for Fort Recovery and Chelsea Pottkotter added 10 points. Stacy Lange had 13 points for St. Henry and Ashley Heitkamp had 10 points.

Boys Basketball

Liberty-Benton 52, Leipsic 33

BENTON RIDGE — Rob Rucki’s 16 points led the way for Liberty-Benton, which clinched the Blanchard Valley Conference co-championship along with Arlington.

Liberty-Benton is 16-3 overall and 8-1 in the BVC while Leipsic falls to 15-4, 7-2.

Devin Mangas had 14 points for the Vikings.
