Friday's prep roundup: Wapak stuns Shawnee
WAPAKONETA - Jake Lambert had a two-yard touchdown rush, and Jason Bartlett returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score.
Yet the most important yardage for Wapakoneta were the 36 yards covered by a Dan Dripps field goal late in the fourth quarter, sealing a 17-16 Wapakoneta upset of Shawnee on Friday.
Shawnee took a 16-14 lead in the second quarter on a 25-yard field goal from Cody Koplichack. The only score of the second half was Dripps' field goal with 2 minutes, 21 seconds left in the game.
Lambert rushed for 81 yards, and Bartlett caught all five Wapakoneta passes.
Brandon Stephenson of Shawnee rushed for 69 yards. The Indians rushed for 117 yards.
Kenton 42, Defiance 21
DEFIANCE - Maty Mauk threw for 345 yards on 28 of 43 passing as Kenton threw a wrench in Defiance's hopes in the Western Buckeye League. Mauk completed all six of Kenton's TD passes.
Chase Barnes caught 10 passes for 176 yards and three scores, and Robby Handell had 11 grabs for 93 yards and another TD.
Travis Spitnale led Defiance with 123 rushing yards, with a 48-yard run to the end zone.
Coldwater 34, St. Henry 7
ST. HENRY - Cory Klenke completed 16 of 26 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns in the rivalry win.
St. Henry scored first to gain the lead, but less than 2 minutes later, Tony Harlamert scored on a one-yard rush. Klenke found Zach Kaup on a 12-yard pass to give the Cavaliers the lead for good.
Bluffton 19, Spencerville 13
BLUFFTON - Tyler Rayl rushed 16 times for 104 yards, and Chad Dulle carried another 17 times for 60 yards, as Bluffton held off Spencerville. Rayl and Dulle each scored a rushing TD.
The Pirates had 179 rushing yards, but Spencerville managed just 39 on the ground. Bearcats quarterback Tyler Deitering completed 14 passes for 204 yards and the two scores.
Waynesfield 39, Upper Scioto Valley 15
MC GUFFEY - Waynesfield ran over the Upper Scioto Valley defense, gaining 295 yards on the ground. Jake Spencer carried the ball 21 times for 243 yards and four touchdowns.
Waynesfield was only up 20-15 at halftime, but the Tigers kept USV scoreless.
Anna 45, Minster 0
MINSTER - Wes Hunsucker of Anna went 9 of 14 for 118 yards and three touchdowns.
Anna ran the ball 39 times for 293 yards, while Minster ran it 29 times for only 43 yards. Kameron Knight led the Rockets' with 13 rushes for 151 yards and a touchdown.
Ada 62, Crestview 6
ADA - Mitchell Faine accounted for seven total touchdowns, throwing for six and running for another. Faine hooked up with Kyle Baker for three of those touchdowns, and with Heath Jackson for touchdowns of 48 yards in the first quarter and 70 yards in the third.
Ada had a total of 400 yards through the air, with only one interception.
The Bulldogs defense intercepted the ball five times.
Columbus Bishop Ready 10, LCC 9
COLUMBUS - LCC had 318 total yards compared to Bishop Ready's 199, and had 17 first downs compared to Bishop Ready's 12, but the Thunderbirds fell just short of sending the game to overtime.
LCC's only touchdown of the game came on a 33-yard rush by Micheal Tremoulis. The point after was blocked. The score gave LCC a 9-3 lead, but a 44-yard pass in the third vaulted the Silver Knights into the lead.
Delphos Jefferson 33, Columbus Grove 6
DELPHOS - Delphos Jefferson did most of their damage on the ground, rushing for 244 yards and four touchdowns. Eric Short had 10 carries for 116 yards and a touchdown. Derek Shivley had three one-yard rushing touchdowns.
Columbus Grove's only touchdown came on a 26-yard pass from Jordan Travis to Jacob Miller.
Ottawa-Glandorf 27, Bath 0
LIMA - Ottawa-Glandorf had 25 first downs and 479 total yards as Bath had only six first downs and 90 total yards.
Ottawa-Glandorf's Jacob Lugo had 30 rushes for 216 yards. Ottawa-Glandorf outgained the Wildcats 340-17 on the ground.
Taylor Kuhlman accounted for all four of the Titans' touchdowns, rushing for two and connecting with Brent Kuhlman twice on passes of six and 42 yards.
Urbana 12, Indian Lake 6
URBANA - Josh Colbert scored on a 59-yard rush in the second quarter and Urbana held on through a fourth-quarter score to win. Urbana gained all of its 320 yards on the ground.
Pandora-Gilboa 34, Hardin Northern 7
PANDORA - Sam Maag completed 15 passes for 304 yards and rushed 11 times for 58 yards to lead Pandora-Gilboa.
Josh Lee caught six passes for 152 yards for P-G, including an 88-yard touchdown early in the first quarter. D.J. Geiger rushed 19 times for 113 yards, with a 30-yard scoring run late in the fourth.
Paulding 41, Allen East 14
PAULDING - Paulding rushed for 271 yards as the Panthers cruised to the home Northwest Conference win. Allen East could muster just 190 total yards.
