Saturday's Roundup: Miller, Wilson lead area at D-III sectionals
LIMA — Coldwater’s wrestling team scored 179.5 points to win the Division III sectional wrestling tournament on Saturday at Lima Central Catholic while Bath was second with 143.5 and Wayne Trace was third with 142.5. Delphos St. John’s followed with 137.5, LCC was fifth with 133 and Delphos Jefferson was sixth with 128.5.
The top four placers in each weight class from LCC will move on to next week’s district tournament at Kettering Alter.
Delphos Jefferson’s Curtis Miller won the 220-pound weight class to improve his record to 48-0 while Bluffton’s Zach Wilson won the 145-pound class to move to 45-0. Meanwhile, Delphos St. John’s Logan Heiing was the champion at 195 and during the tournament he won his 100th career match.
Allen East champions included Tyler Baker (120), Colt Lovejoy (138), J.R. Conyers (160) and Grant Criblez (182). Bath’s champions included Jared Davis (113) and Zavier Meeks (132) while Brandon McCormick (126) and Bobby Sunderhaus (170) each won for LCC. Columbus Groves’ Tregg Keysor won at 106, Delphos St. John’s Will Buettner won at 152 and Bluffton’s Kody Koronich won at 285.
Division I at Marion Harding
MARION HARDING — Lima Senior’s Alex Wick took fourth at the Division I sectional tournament at Marion Harding to gain a trip to next week’s district tournament. Lima Senior was eighth with 72 points as Perrysburg won with 224.5. The top four placers in each weight class move on to district at Ashland.
Lima Senior’s fifth place finishers, which will be district alternates, included Chris Holbrook (106), Darquavious Brown (145) and Jordan Ragland (160).
Boys Basketball
Allen East 81, Waynesfield-Goshen 63
LAFAYETTE — James Richardson’s 28 points, on the strength of five 3-pointers, lifted the Mustangs to the win. Tanner Richardson had 21 points and 14 rebounds for Allen East (6-13), Jacob Howard added 13 points and Matt Shuey had 11 rebounds and 6 points. Dylan Little scored 24 points (7 3-pointers) and Jake Frank had 23 points for W-G.
LCC 68, Celina 61
CELINA — Five LCC players reached double figures in the nonleague win. Darius West, John Kidd and Bruce Hodges had 11 apiece for the T-Birds (17-2) while Billy Taflinger and Tyler O’Connor scored 10 each. Scott Moeder had 21 points for Celina (8-11), Matt Buschur scored 14 and Clayton Hoyng scored 11 points.
Botkins 67, Perry 50
PERRY TOWNSHIP — Botkins outscored Perry 23-7 in the third quarter to build a solid lead and win the nonleague game. Kevontae Steele scored 24 points for Perry.
Cory-Rawson 64, Temple 58 (OT)
LIMA — Justin Kroehler scored 21 points for Temple in the overtime loss to visiting Cory-Rawson. The Hornets (7-12) outscored the Pioneers (12-7) 12-6 in the extra period for the win. Evan Sutton scored 11 points while Kent Brenneman and Jared Mitchell each scored 10 points.
Columbus Grove 49, Miller City 44
MILLER CITY — Columbus Grove clinched a share of the PCL title with the win at Miller City. Caleb Grothaus scored 13 points for Grove, Jordan Travis and Wade Heffner had 12 each. Ross Kaufman poured in 30 points for the Wildcats.
Wapakoneta 55, Coldwater 40
WAPAKONETA — Jake Buzzard’s 17 points helped the Redskins improve to 7-12 on the season. Alex Greve had 12 points and Caleb Vondenhuevel had 11 points for Wapak. Austin Bruns and Brandon Wolters had 11 each for Coldwater.
Lehman 58, St. Marys 52
SIDNEY — Garrett Fledderjohann scored 20 points for St. Marys in the loss. J.D. Meyer had 13 points and Steven Elshoff finished with 10 points.
Continental 46, Tinora 38
CONTINENTAL — Brett Slattman’s 19 points and 8 rebounds paced the Pirates (7-12) to the nonleague win.
Fort Jennings 46, Pandora-Gilboa 43
FORT JENNINGS — Cody Warnecke and Kurt Warnecke each scored 13 points to lead Fort Jennings. Nathan Schutz scored 14 points for P-G.
Girls Basketball
Pandora-Gilboa 38, Columbus Grove 28
PANDORA — The Rockets outscored the Bulldogs 9-0 in the second quarter and 15-6 in the fourth to grab the PCL win. Megan Maag scored 13 points for Pandora-Gilboa (12-8, 4-3) and Megan Hovest had 8 points. Anna Ricker scored 11 points for Grove (9-11, 2-5) and Nikki Stechschulte finished with 8 points.
